Its been over 24 hours since I unboxed the Nokia N97 and in this post I bring you my first impressions based on one day with the N97 and also my experience from the N97 Blogger meetup which happened in New Delhi a few days ago.
I was lucky enough to play with both the white and the black (its actually a very dark grey) version and the build quality on both was phenomenal. The slide was so tight that if I hadn’t studied the N97 online for so long , I won’t have known the direction that I needed to slide the N97 in order to reveal the keypad.
The biggest decision for people to make once they decide to get the N97 is white colour to pick. When I laid my eyes on the Black, I immediately knew that there was no way I would skip this for the white. The white isn’t half bad, infact it even enjoys the advantage of being comparatively finger print free as regard to the black sibling. However, to my eye the white had a more plastic feel to it and looked far less regal. But then again, this is down to personal preference and you will find people that will swear for the white. As you saw yesterday, I ended up with the black and after 24 hours I am even more sure of my decision.
New Delhi, June 4 (IANS) Nokia’s flagship touch-screen handset N-97 will be launched nationwide within two weeks at a likely price of around Rs.35,000, the company announced Thursday.
‘The handset is expected to begin shipping in India in the next two weeks,’ Vineet Taneja, director-marketing of Nokia India, told reporters here.
The price of the high-end smartphone would be around Rs.35,000, Taneja said while refusing to give the exact price.
‘Fuelled by a multitude of media and applications through the Ovi Store, the N-97 transforms the Internet into an experience that is completely tailored to the tastes and interests of its users,’ Taneja said.
Ovi Store is Nokia’s application downloading service through which users can procure free mobile applications for their handsets.
Designed for the needs of Internet-savvy consumers, the model supports up to 48 GB of storage, including 32 GB of on-board memory, expandable with a 16 GB microSD card for music, media and more.
This is complemented by excellent music capabilities, full support for the Nokia music store and continuous playback time of up to 1.5 days. The N-97 has a five-megapixel camera with high-quality DVD quality video capture.
It also pioneers the concept of a personalised home screen that lets people choose their favourite content, providing an ‘always open’ window to applications or Internet content such as social networking sites, RSS feeds and other widgets.
If you’re in India and been waiting to get a Nokia N97, here’s your chance to get it before anyone else. Nokia India is now taking pre-orders for the N97.
With the N97 you can personalise your homescreen, connect quickly with the touch and QWERTY keyboard, indulge in videos, music and pictures. Get the most out of the internet on-the-go and download applications from the Ovi store.

The Nokia N97 is one tempting device and when I see one in black, I seem to want it even more. The wait since its announcement has been painful, but we now have confirmation that the N97 will indeed hit the wild in June. Two months to go.
Here’s what Charlie at Nokia Conversations had to say:
I checked yesterday with whose who know and the N97 is on track to be released into the wild in June. That was June. In case you didn’t read that, I said the N97 will be available in June (and if it isn’t, I’m going to kick someone’s butt).
Meanwhile, check out the above N97 preview in HD to help you tide over this time.
