Skype is finally available on the Nokia N97 and other S60 5th Edition devices. It also came out of beta and expanded its compatibility to almost all S60 3rd and 5th Edition devices. The list doesn’t mention devices like the N86 and E72, but I can confirm that it is working on both devices.

You can hit skype.com/m from you Nokia device’s browser to download and install Skype. The client offers everything you would expect from a Skype client, free Skype to Skype calls, the ability to call mobile and landline numbers in your phonebook with Skype out credit, chats and so on.

There is still no video calling support, but for that there’s always Fring!

Haven’t you always wanted to edit the predictive text (T9) dictionary on your Nokia devices? I’m sure we all have had an occasion when we added a word to the dictionary that was needed only once, but the phone kept prompting us with that word for ages, much to our irritation. Enter, Nokia Custom Dictionary. A application that allows us to edit the list of words used by the phone for text prediction and even transfer it between phones. Not only that it can also import words from a text file. So you can quickly “teach” your phone commonly used words or even create specific word lists to be shared among a like-minded community, for example in the medical/legal domain. With this application, you can:

• View all the words in your custom dictionary
• Add new words to it
• Edit and Delete existing words
• Export the dictionary as xml file
• Import words from an xml file
• Scan text files to import all the words
• Transfer your dictionary to another phone

The latest application from the Beta Labs, Nokia Diagnostics is a solution for helping Nokia users diagnose, troubleshoot, and configure their devices with ease on their own.

It currently features the following tests and if this experiment is successful, more of these tests will be added to this list :

• Network Coverage test. You can get all the network related information and detect offline status & SIM card presence.
• Internet Connectivity test. Perform a real-time Internet connectivity test and identify the setting with which you can have a seamless internet access.
• Battery Charger test. Check if your device charges properly with the charger connected.
• Loudspeaker, Earpiece test. Check your loudspeaker & earpiece functionality.
