Key Announcements From The Forum Nokia Developer Conference

We are currently in Bangalore for the Forum Nokia Developer Conference and Nokia has just made a few keys announcements:

  • As part of the $10 million Open Screen Project Fund, Nokia has announced funding for four infotainment applications viz., Bollywood Hungama, Eros Bollywood, India Today and Aaj Tak Videos, created by Indian developer companies. The applications were selected through a stringent short listing process, from over 900 entries submitted from over 60 countries and will be available to consumers across the world through the Ovi Store later this month.
  • Under the just announced Code Competition for Qt Mobility APIs, Nokia is inviting developers across the globe to create code samples for Symbian that utilize Qt and Qt Mobility APIs. The entries will then be assessed on their level of innovation and usefulness by a board of Nokia technical and business development experts. Many examples will be chosen for publishing on to www.forum.nokia.com as a resource for the Forum Nokia community and to help accelerate the use of Qt even further.
  • The grand prize winner will be nominated Forum Nokia Champion and will receive a trip to the upcoming Nokia Forum Developer Summit to be held in San Francisco, California USA on June 9th and 10th, 2010.
  • The S40 5th Edition, Feature Pack 1 ‘Lite’ SDK, targeted at the world’s highest volume mobile developer platform is now available globally. The new SDK is likely to make it easier for publishers and developers to create innovative applications for millions of mobile consumers thus giving a new lease of life to S40 devices.
  • The SDK includes features such as Java runtime, APIs, emulator, example applications & documentation and API reference. This SDK will support popular IDEs Eclipse and Netbeans, and will also feature support for Indian regional languages like Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Punjabi, Marathi and Bengali.
