Part II: Homescreen On The N97

One of the major highlights of the Nokia N97 is its widgitised homescreen. It basically offers you 5 slots where you can add different widgets, shortcuts, contacts and RSS feeds. The advantage of such a setup is that you can have all your information available at a glance, in real time. The widgets use your data connection or WIFI to update themselves automatically and there is no need for you to update manually each time.
A few real world examples would be having the current weather information show up on your screen, your latest email messages, the latest Tweets, Facebook updates or if you want the latest stock information – all the latest quotes will keep scrolling on your screen.
However, there may be times when you do not want your phone’s data to be used, so in that case you can also choose to have widgets on your screen that do not need internet. The homescreen below has two shortcut bars for one touch access to your favourite applications, a box to display the latest calender entries, a Email preview and a music player control, all incredibly useful.
