Yesterday Nokia blessed the Nokia 5800 has been blessed with the v30.0.011 firmware. The update makes the 5800 much more responsive which results in a snappy UI, another point of note is that the free RAM on the device has shot up and this means that you can multitask better and have more applications open at the same time.
Another thing that the new firmware brings in a shortcut for email on the homescreen, needless to say this is an extremely handy and much awaited addition. The firmware is slowly being pushed out over the air and is available via Nokia’s Software Updater. If you don’t see the update then it means that its not available for your product code for now and you will have to wait for some firmware love.
Although the 5800 features user data preservation, I suggest you backup before you update.
Just like we talked about Messaging on the E75 earlier, although Nokia might have positioned the E75 as a total ‘Internet’ device, there are a few things it cant really do out of the box. Luckily, thanks to the fact that the E75 runs Symbian S60 v3, there are quite a few applications to help you make more use of your E75.

Nokia has positioned the E75 as an ultimate email/messaging device, but there are a few things it can’t do out of the box. However, that does not mean that you cannot take the ‘messaging’ tag a step further and utilize the potential of the E75 completely. Here are applications that will help you turn the E75 into a Instant Messaging and scan, copy & fax device.
PALRINGO – This free applications allows you to IM with 10 different IM services including Facebook, Gtalk, Yahoo, Live Messenger and AOL. You can even send voice messages with a single click, join chatrooms and so on. Download here.
SCANR – This is one of my favourite applications, it has the ability to turn your camera phone into a scanner, copier, and fax. I’ve not used the fax service but the rest work great! The website claims it can clean photos of documents, whiteboards and business cards; extract any text and contact information, and they deliver. The phone application is basically a upload tool and the processing is done online. Unfortunately, the service is not free but is relatively cheap, try here.
HERE & NOW - Here and Now offers easy-to-use web services related to your current location. Check the local weather at a glance and get other topical information while on the move. Get it here.
Here’s a short video letting you know about how software updates will be periodically released for your N97, and how your device checks for them automatically.
Following on from our series showcasing the N97 widgets, this time we have a look at some of the widgets from the ‘News and Information’ section of the Ovi Store. All of these widgets are completely free and a useful addition to your N97.
Bloomberg – Information about the world’s financial market delivered right on your homescreen.
You can enter your stock number etc in the ‘My Stocks’ tab and it will display the current price, change and market value of your holding.
The Nokia E75 is being mainly called a “Business” device and thats it. What many people dont realize though, is how awesome of an all rounder this phone is. One of its best features, is using the E75 as a music device.
The E75 is also the first Eseries-branded handset to utilize the AIC33 dedicated audio chip. So as you can expect, Audio Quality is great, and definitely on par with Nseries devices.
The day before we talked about a few random lesser known widgets for the N97 and today we are going to have a look at some of the options we have in the ‘entertainment’ genre. I was surprised to find quite a few widgets in this category alone at the Ovi Store. Moreover the fact that the Ovi Store application is already installed on the N97, makes it a breeze to discover new widgets.
Simply open the application, goto the ‘Applications’ tab, hit options and select ‘Entertainment’ from the categories. You can then sort the entried from newest to older or direct the application to show you only the free ones or both paid and free or paid only.
