Introducing the 5800 XpressMusic: The latest evolution in Nokia’s touchscreen phones

Honestly, the one device that doesnt need an introduction actually ! The 5800 XpressMusic has been released here in India a couple days, and its been the talk of cellphone lovers around the country.

But just incase you havent heard about it, here’s an introduction to Nokia’s first S60 touch device, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic.

The Nokia 5800 is Nokia’s first s60 Touchscreen handset. It features a large beautiful 3.2-inch touchscreen display with 16 Million colors, a 3.2 megapixel Carl Zeiss camera with autofocus, records dvd-like video at 30fps in widescreen WVGA resolution and the usual Nokia features like GPS, Bluetooth, Wifi and TV-Out through the standard 3.5mm audio jack, to which you can attach any pair of headphones ! ( As a bonus, the 5800 being sold in India comes with special Sennheiser LX90 earphones).

The phone also comes with an 8GB microSD card, so you have plenty of space for storing music, or videos to watch on that large beautiful widescreen. The Indian 5800 comes with 250plus songs on that card to get you started off with listening to music. The retail package also comes with a lot more extras than standard Nokia phones. There’s a stand for the 5800, so you can comfortably watch videos on your device, a pouch to carry it around in, a plectrum cord attached to a lanyard cable and a data cable to transfer music, pictures, videos or software to and from your computer to the 5800.

But the main and underlined feature of the 5800 XpressMusic, is the touchscreen. This is Nokia’s first S60 touch device, but its certainly not its first touch device ever. Nokia’s had a long history in making Touch devices, so they’re definitely experienced at it.

Long before, in 2003, Nokia was working on the 7700, which was its first touchscreen device.

The Nokia 7700 was a mobile phone produced by Nokia, announced in 2003 but never released passed its prototype form.

It was quickly replaced by the Nokia 7710, which was released to the public in 2004.

Both these phones, however, were based on a totally different operating system called “Series 90″, which has since been extinct. The 5800 XpressMusic however, is based on the S60 operating system which is a lot more stable, faster, and overall trouble-free.

And thats not all ! Nokia’s also been in the internet tablet making business for a while now. They released a whole series of Tablets which run on the linux Maemo operating system. It all began with the Nokia 770 in late 2005.

The device did suprisingly well, at a time when internet tablets were just becoming mainstream, and was succeeded by the N800 in early 2007.

Which also did pretty well in the internet tablet world. It was succeeded by the latest iteration, which is the Nokia N810.

So, as you can see, Nokia’s no stranger to the touchscreen phone market. The 5800 is the latest evolution in Nokia’s touch devices, and so far everything I’ve heard about the device has been good.

We should be getting our 5800 devices soon, so we’ll definitely let you know more about this amazing device in the coming days here on Mobonoid ! Stay tuned folks !
