Applications For The 5800

[digg-me] Whenever an existing OS gets a new face the one worry people have is what about the existing applications designed for the current setup. When S60 was updated to include touch, the programmers worked to include backwards compatibility with existing S60 applications. However, due to some major changes in input mechanisms and screen layouts quite a lot of the existing applications don’t work as well and some don’t work at all.
But, the situation is not as bad on the 5800. Quite a lot of the applications work well and we are seeing vendors update their offerrings to include optimisation for S60 touch, Epocware is one such example. Among the apps that are optimized for the platform are Handy Shell, Handy Safe, Handy Weather, Handy Calendar, as well as a number of the company’s SlovoEd-powered dictionaries.
Not only that, Nokia themeselves have released a set of quite interesting touch applications for the 5800.

So there you have it, thats quite a few specifically designed/optimised applications to keep you busy. Nokia has started churning out Touch ads here on TV in India, so the 5800 can’t be far now.
