The 5800 Can Be Yours On The 4th Of January In India

[digg-me] If the latest reports are anything to go by, the 5800 can be your’s on January 4, 2009. However, this comes with a slight caveat. This applies only if you go ahead and pre-book your 5800 through the Nokia website we told you about a few days ago.

For the rest of you the wait might be longer with estimates even going upto the end of January. The estimated price of the 5800 is Rs. 21,800 and it is available for you to check out at certain Nokia stores. If you happen to live near one, drop us a line.

Applications For The 5800

[digg-me] Whenever an existing OS gets a new face the one worry people have is what about the existing applications designed for the current setup. When S60 was updated to include touch, the programmers worked to include backwards compatibility with existing S60 applications. However, due to some major changes in input mechanisms and screen layouts quite a lot of the existing applications don’t work as well and some don’t work at all.

But, the situation is not as bad on the 5800. Quite a lot of the applications work well and we are seeing vendors update their offerrings to include optimisation for S60 touch, Epocware is one such example. Among the apps that are optimized for the platform are Handy Shell, Handy Safe, Handy Weather, Handy Calendar, as well as a number of the company’s SlovoEd-powered dictionaries.
