[digg-me]Before I started using the N85 as my primary device, I had been using the wonderful Nokia E71. The transition from the Eseries to the Nseries has its obvious benefits such as the music capabilities, N-Gage and the camera while having no glaring negative if QWERTY is not a must. But I have to admit right at the start that I have been tempted to put my SIM back in the E71 despite all of that however I have not. Read on to find out about the three things on the N85 have so far been able to stop me.
(Note: It goes without saying that we have not tried or tested any of these themes ourselves since we have yet to get our hands on a 5800, so please, install at your own risk or check the thread over at DailyMobile before installing them)
The guys over at DailyMobile have put together a megapack of 5800 themes.
As a little gift from Nokia, they’re letting you try one week of free worldwide navigation on Maps. Seven days isnt much, but it should show you how navigation works on the Nokia Maps application. And its free,so why not give it a go?
After a few hiccups which resulted in some people cheating and messing with the save games on N-Gage, the previously announced ONE tournament was put on hold and thought to be cancelled.
I’m happy to let y’all know that there’s a new ONE tournament with new rules and a new way to enter.
[digg-me] If the latest reports are anything to go by, the 5800 can be your’s on January 4, 2009. However, this comes with a slight caveat. This applies only if you go ahead and pre-book your 5800 through the Nokia website we told you about a few days ago.
For the rest of you the wait might be longer with estimates even going upto the end of January. The estimated price of the 5800 is Rs. 21,800 and it is available for you to check out at certain Nokia stores. If you happen to live near one, drop us a line.
[digg-me] Whenever an existing OS gets a new face the one worry people have is what about the existing applications designed for the current setup. When S60 was updated to include touch, the programmers worked to include backwards compatibility with existing S60 applications. However, due to some major changes in input mechanisms and screen layouts quite a lot of the existing applications don’t work as well and some don’t work at all.
But, the situation is not as bad on the 5800. Quite a lot of the applications work well and we are seeing vendors update their offerrings to include optimisation for S60 touch, Epocware is one such example. Among the apps that are optimized for the platform are Handy Shell, Handy Safe, Handy Weather, Handy Calendar, as well as a number of the company’s SlovoEd-powered dictionaries.
[digg-me]A few days ago we told you about Handwriting Calculator, aapplication that is a showcase of Nokia’s new handwriting recognition technology. It allows you to calculate handwritten math expressions with a touch-screen Nokia device (and with a Windows PC). The only S60 Nokia device with a touch interface is the 5800, so we figured you might want to have look at an application that might make Mathematics fun for you.
