AikonLab Handwave In Beta: An Intriguing Application

The front camera on our phones has been present from a long long time, it was originally intended to be used for video calls but since that never took off, the only function it currently performs on most handsets is that of a mirror. However, that might change now. Samir the person behind Rotame and Aikon Lab has come up with an intriguing application that has the potential to change the way we use the front cam.
The application basically makes use of the front-facing cameras present on most Nokia S60 handsets to detect movements and then translates them into control commands. So if you wave your hand across the camera it would be equivalent to pressing a button, thus a hand wave from left to right, or right to left, simulates left or right keypress.
The application is currently a very early release and in Beta, so it only offers side to side functionality for now, however options to control its sensitivity for dark and light areas is present. In the future, expect a release that works from a distance – this can possibly to a killer application to use with TV Out. Just imagine sitting far from the TV yet controlling your handset. Killer.

Please note this application is currently available as Donationware. If you are willing to donate to contribute towards its development the team at Aikon Lab will send you Handwave, you can even request them to sign it for your device. Check this page out.
