The Way Of The 5800 Has Begun?

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is true after all. The 5800 Xpress Music is slowly becoming available across different countries and the Nokia Flagship Store in Russia was one of the first to receive supply of the much awaited handset. Following which a piece was written by Victoria Eremina and published internally inside Nokia and later after requisite permission on the MR forums.

“This week, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic sales kicked off in Russia with stunning success. On Wednesday, the Moscow Flagship Store sold out its entire inventory in a record 30 minutes. An additional 900 people added their names to the waiting list.

Buyers, some of whom had camped in line for days, crowded the Flagship Store to hit store shelves. At sales start on Wednesday November 26th there was a queue of over 150 people. Some anxious buyers even offered bribes to people in queue to get the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic first.

Nokia Getting Set Make Your Smartphone The Remote Control For Your House

Nokia is working on a project called Home Control Centre which is a solution aimed at connecting your home services and equipment so they can be controlled by a PC or smartphone, both locally and remotely. This will be taking smartphone functionality to a new level – making it a remote control for your house.

The solution aims to enable us to monitor and control the electricity usage, switch devices on and off, and monitor different objects, such as temperature, camera, and motion. Furthermore, in future, entire systems within the home will be capable of being connected to the Nokia platform, including security, heating, and ventilation systems.

With this in mind, the first joint solution from Nokia and RWE, a European energy company will focus on home heating management. The product consists of a central control unit together with remote-controlled thermostats for the actual radiator. The user interface for this will be the PC and the mobile phone amongst other options. Nokia Home Control Center will be part of Nokia’s home offering and will be demonstrated at Nokia World in Barcelona, Spain, on December 2-3, 2008. It is expected to become commercially available by the end of 2009.

For us in India, this might not be relevant starting tomorrow, but it should sure serve as a sign of things to come.
